Explanation
In-the-hoop projects are complete items made inside the embroidery hoop.
Fabric is stabilized, stitched, assembled, and often turned or stuffed – all within the embroidery machine, no separate sewing required.
Uses
- Pouches, ornaments, stuffed figures
- DIY gifts and accessories
- Easy entry into machine embroidery projects
How an ITH file is structured
An ITH file normally contains several clearly separated steps. First, a placement stitch shows where fabric or batting should be positioned. Then the machine secures the layers, adds decorative stitching, and finally closes most of the project while leaving a turning opening if needed. Good ITH designs include a PDF instruction because the order of trimming, folding, taping, and turning is just as important as the stitch file itself.
What to check before stitching
- The required hoop size
- Whether the project needs batting, felt, vinyl, or woven fabric
- Whether a zipper, snap, ribbon, or stuffing is added during the process
- Which stabilizer is recommended
- Whether the file is available in your machine format, such as PES, JEF, or VP3
