Thread Looping

Thread looping occurs when loose loops of thread form on the top or bottom of the embroidery. It is usually caused by incorrect tension or thread issues.

Explanation

Thread looping means that loose loops of thread appear during embroidery – either on the top surface or on the underside of the fabric.
This makes the embroidery look uneven and untidy.

Common causes

  • Incorrect thread tension (too loose or unbalanced)
  • Thread not properly threaded through the machine
  • Unsuitable or damaged embroidery thread
  • Lint or dirt in the thread path or bobbin case
  • Stitching too fast for the chosen thread/fabric

Solutions

  • Check and adjust both top and bobbin thread tension
  • Verify correct threading of the machine
  • Use suitable, high-quality embroidery thread
  • Clean the machine and bobbin case regularly
  • Reduce machine speed if necessary

Tip: If looping mainly happens with specialty threads (e.g. metallics), try using a special needle or adjusting tension settings.
