Explanation
Water-soluble stabilizer is a stabilizing material that dissolves or washes away with water after embroidery. It can be used as a film on top of fabric or as the main stabilizer in the hoop. It is essential for FSL, where the stabilizer disappears and only the stitched lace remains.
Typical uses
- free-standing lace and ornaments
- embroidery on towels, velvet, fleece, or other high-pile fabrics
- fine details that should not sink into the fabric surface
- projects where no stabilizer should remain visible
What to watch for
If no fabric remains as a base, the embroidery must be digitized densely enough to support itself. Too little stitch density can make FSL designs unstable after washing. For water-sensitive fabrics or threads, test first before using water-soluble stabilizer on the final project.
Depending on the product, the stabilizer may be rinsed, dabbed away, or soaked out. Always follow the material instructions for removal.
