What is a ART file?
ART is the native format of Bernina Embroidery Software (originally Bernina Artista). Unlike stitch formats such as DST or EXP, it stores editable design objects, from which the software generates the stitches. The extension carries the software version: .art42, .art50, .art60, .art70, .art80 and .art90 stand for versions 4.2 to 9.
Features & use
- Keeps objects, outlines, fills and stitch settings editable.
- Can be opened only in Bernina Embroidery Software of the same or a newer version.
- Bernina machines themselves usually stitch EXP files exported from ART.
Notes
- A newer version can open older ART files, not the other way round.
- Export to EXP, DST or PES before sharing with non-Bernina users; those exports contain stitches only.
- emborado reads ART in all versions and shows a preview and the technical details.
